Dalton, Ga. ā Dalton Public Schools is proud to celebrate Dalton High School senior Andrea Najera, who was selected as a finalist for and attended the prestigious Georgia Governor's Honors Program this summer.
The Governor's Honors Program is one of Georgia's most competitive academic and artistic programs, recognizing high-achieving high school students across the state. Najera was selected for this prestigious group from a pool of 1,500 semifinalists, attending the rigorous residential summer program held at Georgia Southern University for a month in June. She and around 600 other finalists from across Georgia gathered to study and explore their majors.
Andrea was selected to pursue Communicative Arts as her area of study, driven by her passion for storytelling. She has continued to cultivate this passion at her school, having started the Catamount Times, the Dalton High School newspaper that she manages.
"This opportunity enriched my passion as the curriculum introduced us to short stories by Argentinian writer Jorge Luis Borges, mechanics on screenwriting, poetry creation, and much more," Najera said. "Beyond growing academically, the program allowed me to meet lifelong friends. Ultimately, the greatest lesson I learned is to always remain open-minded and eager to expand your inner circle."
