Dalton, GA ā€“ The Dalton Education Foundation is honored to announce the establishment of the Shannon Craft Memorial Scholarship, created by Dalton Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Steven Craft and his family in memory of his wife, Shannon Craft. This marks the 13th scholarship offered by the Dalton Education Foundation to support students in their postsecondary pursuits.

Shannon Craft was a highly respected and accomplished attorney with the Office of Chief Counsel in the federal government who held a deep belief in the power of education. She earned her undergraduate degree from Georgia State University, her law degree from the University of Georgia, and a Master of Laws in tax law from the University of Florida. She also served as an adjunct professor at Emory’s School of Law, where she was committed to supporting and mentoring students.

She lived her life with courage, dignity, and a genuine care for others. Through this scholarship, her legacy will continue by recognizing students who lead, serve, and make a meaningful impact in their schools and community.

The Shannon Craft Memorial Superintendent Scholarship will recognize two outstanding seniors each year, one from Dalton High School and one from The Dalton Academy. Recipients will be students who have served on the Dalton Public Schools Superintendent’s Student Council and demonstrated strong leadership and service to their school and district.

Each recipient will be awarded a $750 scholarship to support their next steps after graduation. Students are selected for this recognition through their school leadership.

ā€œThe Shannon Craft Memorial Scholarship is a meaningful way to honor Shannon’s life and legacy while investing in the future of our students. She believed deeply in education, service, and caring for others, and was a constant supporter of her husband, Steven Craft, and his commitment to Dalton Public Schools. This scholarship will continue to support and recognize students for years to come,ā€ said Lindsay Lofty, President of the Dalton Education Foundation.

The Dalton Education Foundation is grateful for the opportunity to honor Shannon Craft’s life and legacy in a way that will continue to impact students for years to come.
