Terah Blankenship Named Westwood School’s 2024–2025 Classified Staff Member of the Year

Dalton, GA — Dalton Public Schools is proud to announce that Terah Blankenship has been named Westwood School’s 2024–2025 Classified Staff Member of the Year.

A dedicated member of the Westwood community for fourteen years, Blankenship has served in multiple roles, including kindergarten paraprofessional, STEAM instructor, and ESS instructional paraprofessional. She is currently a paraprofessional in the 3-5 Specially Designed Classroom. Her versatility, passion, and unwavering commitment to students have made her a standout member of the Westwood team.

Blankenship is known for the individualized support she provides to students each day. Whether modifying assignments, offering one-on-one assistance, or helping students build confidence, she approaches every task with purpose and compassion.

“Seeing students make progress and grow more independent is a reward in itself,” she said. “One of the most important takeaways I want my students to know is that they were created for a purpose. Everything they do and learn throughout their years at Westwood, ultimately helps them find out what that purpose is.”

Her colleagues describe her as someone who consistently goes above and beyond expectations—whether stepping into classrooms to help lead instruction, supporting transitions, or designing creative learning tools.

Blankenship attributes this dedication to her belief in the power of small acts of kindness.

“Even small efforts—like a kind word, a cup of coffee, covering a duty, running an extra set of copies… or sitting and listening—can make a lasting impact,” she said. “That’s what drives me to exceed expectations every day.”

In addition to her work in classrooms, Blankenship is deeply involved in Westwood’s school community. She volunteers at numerous school events, supports staff across grade levels, assists with student activities, and helps welcome and guide new teachers and paraprofessionals. She is also known for her creativity and attention to detail in preparing special events for students and staff.

Blankenship’s influence extends beyond the school walls. She regularly connects with students and families at community events, sports activities, and performances, nurturing relationships that last long after students leave Westwood.

These experiences, she says, remind her of the long-term impact a caring educator can have. Reflecting on watching former student Kinsley Stephens perform at the Jimmy Awards, Blankenship shared how meaningful it is to see students’ accomplishments over time.

Dalton Public Schools is honored to recognize Terah Blankenship for her exceptional service, compassion, and leadership. Her dedication strengthens the Westwood community, and she represents the very best of Dalton Public Schools.
