Please review the foll0wing information regarding procedures when you come to the school. Also, talk with your children about what to expect during morning drop off and during dismissal. Please tell your children if they will ride the bus, walk home, be called to a station to be a car rider, walk to the car with you, or go to ASP (After School Program).

Make sure your child's teacher knows how he/she will go home.

Make sure that the front office is notified if you make a change from your typical routine.

If you must make a change. please call us at 706-876-4200 or email your changes by2 :00 pm to bwoffice@dalton.k12.ga.us. An early call or email about a change allows us enough time to get the message to your child before the busy time of dismissal begins.

If you drive through the line to drop-off children:

• NO left turns into or out of the school drive. In order to keep the traffic flowing smoothly and alleviate congestion, no cars can turn left into or out of the school drive during the 7:30 - 8:30 am.
• Watch for kids! We have more walkers than ever. Assume kids could be anywhere.
• DO NOT use your cell phone when you drive into the car loop. Kids are not watching for distracted adults.
• Move as far down the drop-off lane as you can and only drop-off in the right lane of the car loop. Please do NOT stop a the front door - this only slows everyone down behind you. An adult will make sure your child walks safely to the front door.
• Help by organizing lunches and other school things for your child before arrival so that the drop-off is quick for everyone.
• Students are NOT to be dropped off or left unattended prior to 7:30 am unless you, the parent, have previously arranged for another parent who may be waiting outside to supervise your child.
• Students should NOT be dropped off in the lower parking lot and parents should NOT park there as it it reserved for staff parking ONLY.

Under current conditions, all adults walking up to pick up children should report to the sidewalk at the "pull down" station. You will need the sign with your student's name and if you do not have it, you will be directed to the school office. All adults should also wear a mask while they are on the sidewalk to keep our students and staff safe.

• Due to the length and duration of the afternoon car line, our preferred and recommended route to arrive at afternoon car line is via Hill Street. This route is approved by the Dalton Police Department. Please approach the school from Hill Street and only pick up in the right lane of the car loop. If you must arrive from Brown or Central Avenue at the intersection of Brown Street, please be patient and adhere to the four-way stop signs.
• To avoid a left turn into school, cars approaching the school from the east side on Central Avenue will be asked to join the end of the line on Hill Street or park in an available spot and walk up to pick up children (see above). Our car line starts forming early and some parents/grandparents wait a full hour in the appropriate spot. Allowing cars to cut the line in front of those who have been waiting is inconsiderate and disrupts the flow of the line.
• Each family is given a car sign to be used at dismissal. Make sure the person you send to pick up your child is on your approved pick up list before you send them. Also make sure they have your pick up sign to display.
• DISPLAY your sign on the driver's side dashboard until your child is in your vehicle.
• Do NOT use your cell phone when you drive into the car loop. Kids are not watching for distracted adults.
• Please NO PASSING even if you child is already in the car.
• You will be given a station number and your child will be called to that station for loading.
• If your child has not arrived at the station, you will be instructed to pull up to the "pull down" area past the last curve so that traffic can keep moving. Your child will be called again by a staff member in the pull down area and staff members will assist your child once he/she is out of the building.
• Students who are not picked up when the car line ends will be sent to ASP - NO exceptions. ASP daily charges will apply and students will need to be picked up from ASP by using the entry door next to the gym (ring the bell if no one is by the door).

• Students who will be picked up from ASP must be signed out by a parent or guardian. Enter the building for ASP pick-up using the door next to the gym which is accessible from the parking lot to the right of the building. This door remains locked for safety reasons. Ring the doorbell on the door and a staff member will come to greet you.
• ASP students must be picked up promptly by 6:00 pm.

• Make sure your child know he/she is a bus rider and which bus he/she rides.
• Remind your child that moving from seat to seat is dangerous and will not be allowed.
• Ask your child to use an "inside" voice on the bus. Talking loudly causes unnecessary distraction for the driver.
• Ask your child to be a positive role model for other students on the bus.
• Make sure someone is home to receive your children when they are delivered in the afternoons.
• If for some reason your child does not get off the bus, please stay home and call the school office to notify us (706-876-4200). If you cannot reach our office, please call First Student at 706-428-9489.

Our student handbook states no early checkouts after 2:30 pm. Please reserve checkouts after 2:30 pm to emergency only situations. Also, when checking out early, allow extra time in order for us to locate your child's class and for your child to gather his/her things.
